WHERE TO USE: DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® is a problem solving coating formulated to repair, beautify and protect old previously coated wood, bare wood, broom swept concrete and most synthetic decking with proper surface preparation. For ideal adhesion allow new wood or surfaces recently coated with paint, stain, sealer or water repellant to age for at least one season before applying DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE®. Some synthetic or composite decking engineered with moisture repellants or sealers may prevent adhesion of DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE®. Be sure to follow the specific manufacturer’s recommendation before applying DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® to any synthetic or composite decking. For exterior use only and not recommended for driveways, garages or other areas with vehicular traffic.
PREPARATION: Surface must be clean and free of dirt, grease, mildew and organic growth to ensure product bonding and adhesion. Sand or scrape any loose paint. Smooth or glossy surfaces should be sanded or de-glossed before application. Clean the surface using a brush and RESTORE DECK & CONCRETE CLEANER™ or similar non-bleach cleaner. For tough stains, grease spots and embedded dirt a pressure washer may provide best results. Raised nail heads, deck screws or loose deck boards should be secured. If galvanized coating has been removed prime nail/screw heads with a rusty metal primer. Remove loose splinters and replace severely damaged or rotting boards. Fill larger cracks using RESTORE CRACK FILLER™ or similar acrylic, non-silicone filler.
APPLICATION: Before use, stir DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® material thoroughly and repeat stirring occasionally during application. Most projects will require more than one container of DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE®. When using more than one container, combine all containers to ensure color consistency. Use roller tray or work directly from 4-gallon container using a roller grid. Using either a 4” or 9” RESTORE ROLLER® honey comb cover, saturate the roller cover in the tray or container by rolling back and forth. Apply generously in a consistent pattern using slight downward pressure. Work to a wet edge at all times. Slowly roll only in one direction avoiding back and forth motion. Avoid overworking and repeated rolling back into coated areas where drying has begun. Avoid puddling.
FOR SMOOTHER TEXTURE: To achieve a smoother textured surface on the final coat, a brush may be used to skim and smooth the surface. Apply the first coat as directed with a RESTORE ROLLER® and allow to dry. Apply a second coat using the RESTORE ROLLER® and while the second coat is still wet, lightly brush the material to a smooth even finish in opposite direction as rolled. Use care in this step to only smooth the top of the texture and avoid disturbing base of the material already in place by applying too much pressure. Maintain a wet edge. Avoid overworking and repeated brushing back into areas where drying has begun. Avoid puddling. For more information and helpful tips on application, watch the application video.
DIFFICULT AREAS such as warped or cupped deck boards will require rolling across the narrow width of deck board as well as the length to ensure complete coverage. DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® will fill nail holes and cracks up to ¼”. Fill these damaged areas with a heavily loaded roller or brush by dabbing these areas until the gaps or cracks are filled. Larger cracks can be filled using RESTORE CRACK FILLER™. Before rolling, cut in around edges with a brush and coat visible areas between deck boards. During the application some material will extend into the spaces between deck boards. To tidy this area, use a putty knife or other straight edge to remove any excess coating while still wet. DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® is ideally suited for horizontal surfaces. For vertical surfaces such as deck posts, railings and balusters, use RESTORE SOLID ACRYLIC STAIN™ available in all DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® colors or a similar exterior stain or paint to complete the project.
COVERAGE: One gallon of DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® will cover approximately 25 square feet, with two coats.
DRY TIME: Allow DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® to dry 3-6 hours or longer between coats (2 coats required). Allow second coat to dry 8 hours before light foot traffic and 3-5 days before replacing furniture. Drying times may vary depending on weather and moisture content of the surface. Cool or humid conditions require longer drying time. If surface remains tacky due to cool or humid conditions, allow extended drying time before putting furniture or other heavy objects back in place. Full cure to a hard finish will take approximately 3-4 weeks.
PRECAUTIONS & TEMPERATURE SAFEGUARDS: Wood that has not thoroughly dried before application of DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® will also extend the dry time of the coating. Do not apply if rain is expected within 24 hours of application. Optimal surface and ambient temperature is between 40 and 90 degrees F. When applying in hot conditions and/or in direct sunlight, dampen the surface to be painted with a fine mist of water. Be careful not to saturate the area. Misting the surface will keep DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® from drying too fast. Evaporation may occur quickly during hotter weather causing the product to thicken. If this occurs, add up to ½ pint (8 oz) of water per gallon of DECK & CONCRETE RESTORE® and stir thoroughly.
